What are porcelain veneers?

Porcelain veneers are simply thin porcelain skins. They offer dramatic results. The veneers are bonded directly onto the front of your teeth, filling in any Diastemas (gaps between teeth), broken teeth, cracked teeth and teeth that are irreparably stained.

One of the best features of veneers is that they are completely translucent. This translucency will mimic the way your natural teeth reflect the light and appear when you smile. Much like natural dental enamel, this will require upkeep to avoid staining in the future.

How do porcelain veneers differ from a crown?

The main and visually obvious difference is that porcelain veneers are wafer thin, unlike traditional crowns. The application also differs, with veneers being applied to only the front of your existing teeth, versus crowns that enclose an entire tooth.

It may be that you will have to have a crown instead of a porcelain veneer, in which case please visit here to learn more about our crowns and the procedure for fitting them. The resounding reason for having a crown fitted, over a veneer is due to how damaged your tooth is and whether it is needed for heavy pressurized duties; chewing, grinding etc.

So, how will the veneers look once they are in place?

The simple answer; they will look like natural teeth, just without any damage or discoloration.  The translucency of porcelain veneers mean that they will look and feel like natural tooth enamel, it is this translucency that gives the veneers their brilliancy. They are custom made to fit your natural smile, this will avoid any obstructions within your mouth and gives you the personal touch to cosmetic dentistry.

At Livingston Smile Design, we pride ourselves on making sure that you get the smile that you have always longed for. Taking time to sit with you, make sure that your new smile will be exactly the way you want it to be.
